Integrated STEAM Camps:

Get inspired, expand creativity, enhance problem solving, and explore new concepts at Terrific Scientific STEAM Camps. Our hands-on, minds-on camps featuring science, technology, engineering, art, & math are not to be missed! Located at Monroe Elementary School, our camps are designed for students entering Grades 1-6. Campers will rotate through 4 integrated components daily designed by age level. Throughout the week, campers build engineering structures and machines, learn to code and program robots, explore digital games, discover famous artists and famous places, and experiment with many fields of science, including cooking! Students can register for all 3 sessions if desired. With professional instructors and specialists in their field combined with design thinking curriculum, our camps ignite a passion for learning in our campers. Projects are different for EACH week of camp. Register for one week or all 3. Sibling and multi-week discount available. Bring lunch and water.
Art & Design
EXTREME Art! Gr. 6-8
Cost: $315 5/day camp
Take art to a new level! Whether you are an accomplished young artist or someone who thinks they can’t do any art, we promise you are in for a hands-on 3D fun experience with wood burning, tie-dyeing, drawing, printmaking, weaving, sewing, and clay sculpting that is truly EXTREME! Use charcoal to draw on aqua-board creating unique mixed media designs. Learn to use a special pyrography (wood burning) tool to “draw” designs, patterns and texture into wood and dried gourds. The ancient Greeks called it “writing with fire”. After the design is burned in, shading and coloring can be added. Discover the art of printmaking, how to carve linoleum blocks into stamps, create a masterpiece using natural items, and a collagraph abstract print. Dye fibers using natural indigo and tie-die your camp t-shirt to the EXTREME! Design and sew your own creature and sculpt 3D projects with clay. Create faux vase using a heat embossing tool and weave your own tapestry with card or hand looms from simple to complex. So much to experience…too little time!
*NEW Fantastic Beasts of the Mythical World – Grades 4-8
Cost: $315 5/day camp
Grab your suitcase, catch the train, and join the hunt to find the fantastic beasts who await your arrival! Explore our guide to Mythical Creatures and learn where to find them. In this special wizard camp away from the muggles of the world, you will design your own suitcase, construct a Bowtruckle, paint an Occamy egg and Merpeople, draw a Phoenix and Doxy, sew a loveable Niffler, make a Deathly Hallows necklace, sculpt the wild Erumpent, and invent your own incredible creature! Throughout the week, take notes, create a map and draw sketches in your special journal. When our travels come to an end, take home your suitcase of beasts and note-worthy journal.
*NEW All Things (Harry Potter) Magical & Mystical- Gr. 4-8
Cost: $315 5/day camp
Let your imagination run wild! From hippogriffs, dragons, house elves, basilisk, and owls, to sorting hats, dementors, potions, spells…and all things magical, come join us for the time of your life! Search for Horcruxes throughout the week, team up for our Harry Potter Trivia Game, design a broom, and play the wizarding sport of Quidditch. Paint Hogwarts castle, sculpt Dobby or Kreacher house elf, draw mythical creatures, make a Marauder’s map, brew up Butter Beer, create your own wand and Death Eater’s mask, patronus, chocolate frogs, and lots, lots more! Bring your favorite HP book(s) to camp to freshen up on spells, characters, and discuss analogies to the muggle world today. So much magic to do!
*NEW Great Designers of Art & Engineering– Grades 3-7
Cost $305/5 day camp
Travel throughout time and create your own masterpieces inspired by great artists and engineers around the world! Unleash your creativity as you experiment with thick paints like Van Gogh, go wild with clay a la Pablo Picasso, design 3D Nevelson installations, experience first hand the challenge of doing Michelangelo’s ceiling paintings, and create artwork in the style of Matisse, O’Keefe, and Frida Kahlo. Use engineering and design skills to build the Hearst castle by architect Julia Morgan and Fibonacci models with KEVA planks. Construct Leonardo da Vinci and the Wright Brothers prototype flying machine with K’NEX, and replicate Robin Murphy’s rescue robots. Utilizing design thinking, this camp offers imaginative, hands-on projects while combining art and engineering!
Art Potpourri – Gr.1-7
Cost: $305/5 day camp
Drawing, Painting, and Sculpture! No theme, just great fun creating wonderful pieces of artwork while using a mixture of artist quality materials including clay, watercolor, paint, soft pastels, oil pastels, Art Stix, illustration markers, AquaStics, and more! Try your hand at Zentangle patterns, printmaking, sewing, and collage to create mixed media and 3D designs. As students work in these different media components, they will culminate in self-discovery and creation of original art projects with a distinctive flair!
*NEW Sew For Fun! – Grades 4-6
Cost: $330 5/day camp
Campers will learn to translate an idea to a design on paper, sew by hand and on a machine under carefully managed sewing machine time. They will learn basic pattern making skills, safety skills and how to create patterns for their designs. Once patterns are made campers will construct their designs using hand-sewing techniques and simple sewing machine stitches (straight and zig-zag). At the end of the week they will create a custom project from start to finish. Examples of projects include: plush toy, tote bag, house shoes, apron, dress up cape, mask, pillowcase, and more! Sewing machines and all sewing tools are provided. Maximum of 8 students per camp.
Culinary Arts & Food Science
Bakers Delight – Grades 4-8
The best smell is bread, the best savor is salt, the best ingredients are local! What better way to celebrate our community and summer than to bake wonderful goodies from scratch using many fresh ingredients from local farms! From traditional dinner rolls to protein packed savory cottage cheese dill bread and raisin chia bread, your child will learn the simplicity of making fresh bread. Add to that, savory quiche muffins, peach muffins, scones and red velvet cupcakes colored with beet juice make a bakers dream for gifting and eating! Your camper will have the experience of visiting a local farm stand to shop for fresh ingredients, and have the opportunity to hear local growers discuss how food is grown and why buying local helps our environment. Next we discover how to create basic white, yellow and chocolate cake, along with healthy carrot cake and decadent German chocolate cake. Is there more, you say? Oh yes, next we discover how to create savory chicken waffles, savory and sweet crepes, and finish the week off baking summertime berry and other fruit pies! Your child will go home planning to be the next great baking chef!
*NEW Teen Chef Cook OFF! – Gr. 6-9
Put on your Chef’s apron and work in small teams to create salads, entrées, vegetable dishes, and desserts (using healthy and fresh ingredients) of your choosing. Teams will research recipes, go shopping for groceries, learn how to select foods in a grocery store, determine how much their food product costs, and prepare and cook their recipes. To add to the fun, foods produced from each team will be rated with a check-list for taste, healthy ingredients, cost and presentation. Everyone gets to vote! Take home leftovers to show off your skills! Campers will take home “Cookbook for Teens”.
*NEW Sous Chef – Gr. 4-8
Does your camper enjoy watching “Chopped” or “Iron Chef?” on T.V? Using recipes from around the world, Sous Chef is a perfect adventure for any child who loves to eat and wants to learn to cook! Activities and cooking experiments allow aspiring chefs to explore the science behind cooking and try different foods, while learning cooking basics, safety techniques, and healthy eating. Chefs will bake, prep food, follow a recipe, stir-fry, sauté, use a slow cooker and griddle, discover changes in food properties, and learn how to use the tools of the trade. This is a course for beginning “Chefs”, and will include a variety of healthy entrees with chicken or beef, salads, vegetarian dishes, breads, and low sugar desserts! Campers will take home Kid Chef, the Foodie Kids Cookbook.
Programming & Gaming
Beginning Java Programming – Gr. 6-9
Campers will learn the basics of Java using the software Greenfoot. Java is a computer programming language that is class-based, and object-oriented. Greenfoot teaches object orientation. Create ‘actors’ which live in ‘worlds’ to build games, simulations, and other graphical programs. Greenfoot is visual and interactive and is a great way to learning about real coding. Greenfoot aims to motivate learners quickly by providing easy access to animated graphics, sound and interaction. The environment is highly interactive and encourages exploration and experimentation.
Programming with Alice – Gr. 4-8
Alice is an exciting, innovative, and educational software from Carnegie Mellon Institute designed to be a student’s first exposure to object-oriented programming. With a gallery of 3D characters and scenery, students learn fundamental programming concepts in the context of creating animated stories, movies, simple games, and even virtual pets! These 3-D objects (e.g., people, animals, and vehicles) populate a virtual world and students animate the objects and program interactions between characters and their world. In the interactive interface, students drag and drop graphic tiles to create a program, where they learn the relationship between the programming statements and the behavior of objects in their animation.
RPG Game Maker – Gr. 4-8
Make your role-playing games come to life! Our RPG Maker camp shows campers how to create their very own epic role-playing game where they will battle fierce monsters prowling in a dungeon. Campers will learn what RPG is, the history of RPG, all the basics, the character, and all aspects of the game. Terrific Scientific uses RPG Maker VXAce which features:
- A drag-drop interface
- Library of characters
- Tile-based environments
- Enhanced map editor
- Built-in character generator with custom sprites and faces
- Custom items and weapons
- Full inventory of weapons and armor
Once you have finished your project you can export your game to a portable EXE file that can be played on any Windows system. You can share it with your friends, your family, or even the Internet.
*NEW Sr. Minecraft Modding (Gr. 6-9)
(Must have experience with Minecraft.) Programming is power! Get a head start in life by developing invaluable skills in coding with Minecraft. Our camp will teach you to use JavaTM code to control your own MinecraftTM server, build mods and design your own ‘games within the game’. This camp provides a foundation in fundamental concepts like algorithms, data types, variables and loops. Coders become digital creators with real world skills that are transferable to the next phase of their programming development. They will learn to apply raw code using a trial and error approach with graphical support when needed, an approach which is central to STEM subjects. The unique code editor allows campers to learn at their own pace while participating in a group setting. Campers can share their mods with their friends in and out of camp! Even better, campers can continue to create new mods on their own and share them with friends after camp ends! All campers ARE REQUIRED to have a Minecraft™ account for this class. This camp continues with the fun from Sr. Minecraft Modding. It is recommended, but not required for campers to attend Sr. Minecraft Modding prior to participating in this camp. Campers will build additional, more complex mods and create new ‘games within the game’. They will be challenged to continue to write more complex code. Campers can share their mods with their friends in and out of camp! Even better, campers can continue to create new mods on their own and share them with friends after camp ends! Robotics & Engineering

Girls and Boys, do you love to build, create and discover how things work? Then come to this hands-on camp to build your own Maglev Train while learning about magnetic levitation technology and the world’s fastest train with zero pollution. Construct a Salt Water Fuel Vehicle and discover how this eco-friendly technology works and creates electricity. Acquire solar power knowledge and learn about mechanical transmissions as you build the T4 Transforming Solar Robot in 4 different modes: Android, Insecta, T-Rex & Vehicle. QuadCopter Aerial Robotics – Gr. 6-9
Campers will explore aerial robotics technology with fun and engaging educational scenarios and challenges. This camp offers aviation flight skills and interactive robotics training, and encourages camper interest in the career fields of Science, Math, and Engineering. Campers will build prototypes with the new technology and run test scenarios for safety, search, and rescue. Multiple teams of four will apply technology and planning to build a quad rotor designed for a specific first responder mission. Missions include: delivering pharmaceuticals to people in a disaster area, maneuvering the copter close to a (mock) hazardous waste container, and searching for a lost hiker. Campers will also operate and take home their own hand-size quadcopter at the end of the week! Note: campers need to bring an SD card so their mini-quad can take photographs. Please purchase Brand: HD SD Card, at least 2-16G. Don’t purchase a copy cat card as Brand HD works best.
Master Robotics Engineer EV3– Gr 5-8
LEGO® MINDSTORMS EV3™ lets you unleash a world of walking, talking and thinking robots that do anything you can imagine. You and your team will complete a series of challenging missions using the EV3 Programmer App for tablet devices. Combining the versatility of the LEGO building system and intuitive drag-and-drop EV3 software, you will build, program, and complete your own projects throughout the camp. Students are empowered to ask questions, define problems, and design their own solutions. Instructors guide and encourage exploration and trial and error field-testing.
Science & Technology
*NEW CSI- Forensics Investigator II – Gr 6-8
As advanced forensic scientists, campers will delve into and attempt to solve a real murder case dating back to 1842! They will also gather and analyze evidence for a number of fictitious crime scenes, use luminal and UV light to detect the presence of blood when the crime scene has been “cleaned”, complete a blood splatter analysis, take crime scene photographs, and complete a drug and poison analysis. Campers will also gather insects from a rotting carcass (pork chop) as they discover how CSI’s use their entomology skills to determine time of death. Campers MUST bring an inexpensive digital camera to camp.
Chemistry Concoctions – Gr. 6-9
Campers spend the week conducting more than 25 fascinating and fun chemistry experiments. Emphasis is on safety, chemistry history, proper use of chemistry lab equipment, and an introductory understanding of chemical symbols and reactions. This camp is a great way to prepare for high school and even college chemistry. Experiments include: metal flame tests, paper chromatography races, fluorescent polymer slime production, litmus indicator solutions, electricity in a test tube, a boat that runs on soap, and many more!
*NEW 3D Printing & Minecraft – Gr. 6-8
One of the hottest new trends, 3D printing is perfect for prototyping, CAD development skills, and is just plain fun! 3D printers work by following a computer’s digital instructions to “print” an object using materials such as plastic, ceramics and metal. The printing process involves building up an object one layer at a time until it’s complete. This is an interactive camp designed to teach campers how to optimize designs and create a three-dimensional object of almost any shape from a 3D model. Campers will print their own designs to take home. In addition, they will create a Minecraft build, transfer to other software to render the model in 3D, and then print the real life object on a 3D printer. Through out the week, Campers will learn about CAD (computer assisted design), modeling and prototyping, the history of 3D printing, and how businesses and entrepreneurs are using 3D printers for everyday applications.
*NEW Rocket Scientist– Gr. 6-9
Campers experience the science and technology concepts behind space flight. Learning and experimenting with electrical circuits, a space flight simulation, architecture and building projects, and the physics of space travel, campers will design, experiment, and problem solve with computer programs and hands-on projects. Campers will be immersed in the following programs and kits:

Emergency Vet Tech II – Gr. 6-8
Campers take veterinary medicine to the next level! In this camp, your future Veterinarians will learn how to give an injection to an orange, practice suturing on a suture glove, perform a mammal heart dissection, investigate animal dentistry, and delve further into animal emergency conditions and diseases. This camp also includes a rat dissection and neutering procedure on the rat.
Special Effects & Comics Making
*NEW Manga Maker Comics Grades 5-9
Make your own high quality comics and manga using ComiPo manga software! Users can easily create their own unique stories and situations simply by choosing and posing one of the 3D characters! Create stories full of action and suspense by building a story arc with a beginning, middle, and end. Explore narrative elements, such as point of view, character expressions, and environments. Once you have learned the basics, you will have the opportunity to expand your creativity level and teamwork skills by developing a group comic series to address world issues and concerns. With over 100 unique body poses and facial expressions to choose from, along with many background images, items, sound effects, word balloons… you have everything needed to make a visually impressive and professional looking comic come to life. You will learn about:
- Developing a story line
- Posing 3D character models and camera angles
- Creating Background Images
- Using Comic Marks and Sound Effects
- Customizing Your 3D Character
- Working as a team to develop ideas and create a group comic to address world issues
Special Effects –Gr. 4-8
Campers learn the science behind Hollywood’s special effects and movie making. Learn various special effects make-up techniques working with the same materials used by professional make-up artists. These will simulate cuts, bruises, artificial blood, and old age. Activities will demonstrate concepts related to light, sound, perception, illusion, theatrical make-up and model building. One of the great features of this camp is that all campers will create (and take home!) a movie using techniques in Claymation and Stop-Motion Animation. Lessons include plot development, storyboarding, set building, filming, and sound effects. Is there a future movie director living in your house? This is a camp your child won’t want to miss! They will take home their very own special effects kit! Please have your moviemaker bring a 4G Flash Drive to camp to save their movie.
*NEW Pokémon & Stop Motion – Grades 2-6
Cost $305/5 day camp
Do you love the world of Pokemon and animation? Learn to draw, paint, and create your favorite Pokémon characters, sculpt them to life from clay, and make your own Pokemon film. Create stories full of action and suspense by building a story arc with a beginning, middle, and end. Explore narrative elements, such as point of view, character expressions, climax, environments and conclusion. Stop motion animation using ZU3D software is an incredibly fun, hands-on way to make amazing films, using clay and armature-based figures, Pokemon mini-characters and other everyday materials. We provide campers with storyboard techniques, script writing, set design ideas, character development, film angles, lighting, special effects, and methods to add titles and rolling credits. This camp is the perfect mixture of art & technology for aspiring artist and movie makers. For extra fun, we encourage you to bring your own Pokemon cards and battle with other trainers at break or lunch times. Requirements: Bring 4g flash drive to camp to take your movie home!
